MUSIC VIDEO (FINAL)

KYLE RAPPS - HARD KNOCK CHILDREN

  1. Very well synced throughout the video with the lip syncing in time with the music. Wide variety of locations which adds more layers to the music video than having just one. The locations and the costumes reflected the genre of the track well showing links between the music and the visuals for Goodwins' theory. Plenty of close ups also used to meet the needs of the record label. Very well edited with smooth transitions between all the shots. Had some elements of humour when you missed the basketball shot and took a video of a cat to link the lyrics which was good.
Overall very good but one improvement could be to have different camera shots when Reece and Steve are singing rather than them singing to the camera all the time.

  2. Jolyon's Analysis of U1-47s Final Cut

There are lots of short duration shots used in the music video which match up well with the steady pace of the song.
The mood of the song is very uplifting and it is steady paced, and the mood of the song is effectively portrayed as the two performers play basketball in some of the shots, and the bright colours seen in the basketball court and the arcade also fit well with the mood of the song.
There are many examples of lyrics matching to the visuals in this music video, which have all been listed below:-

    - "If I go to the bank" as a performer literally sits near the doors of a bank.
    - "First I made a mistake then begin again" as a performer loses control of the ball (the mistake) and then his attempt at scoring points by getting the ball through the basketball net "begins again".
    - "1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4" matches to the number of fingers the performers hold up (the same goes for when they sing 5th grade, 6th grade, 7th grade...)
    - "Armpits stink" as a performer actually sniffs his armpit.
    - "Before they had cellphones" as an actual cellphone appears in a short duration shot, and the cellphone also works as a reference to the notion of looking, which are commonly seen in some music videos.
    - "I wish they would bring arcades back" as a performer actually sits in an arcade.
    - "Fight fight fight" as the two performers hold up their fists and move them around.
    - "smoking candy cigarettes" as one of the performers does a sign for smoking with two fingers held against his mouth.
    - "Wishing I could go and see the cat" as a cat actually appears in one of the shots.
    - "Rainy day" as a performer looks out of the window and sees that it's raining.
There are some motifs used in this music video as well, which include the basketball court location being used in the music video a lot, and fingers being held up to match the number of each grade mentioned every time the chorus in the song came up.
There were also some tracking shots used to keep track of the performers' movements as the camera shifted to match those movements, two-shots to show the two performers together as they performed various actions, and some close-up shots of the two performers to show their expressions and movements more clearly.

shot variation fits with fast pace
    lip syncing effective
change of artist in song fits with change they did with people
    good use of locations

    cons
ends a bit suddenly if this was deliberate sorry its not really a criticism just something a bit random don't know if it works
